Portfolio - Final Thoughts
· I enjoyed ... I enjoyed the supernatural things that happened which couldn't have been possible in real life but Shakespeare made it possible on his writing. I also enjoyed the characters and the slight un humane and uniquely funny qualities that they had and the different characteristics. · I disliked ... The significant change of language and a lot of it was very hard to follow and know what they were saying. It may be easier for some people than others but I found it very difficult to have the language change like that. I also thought that there was a lot going on at once and I got confused on which story line it was. · A question (or questions) I have ... Why did the potion wear off of Lysander but not Demetrius? | |

Viewing Activity Act V
Viewing
Activity: Act V
Shakespeare uses a number of different techniques to create
humor in the play-within-a-play. Some techniques include:
- · Breaking the play's illusion of reality
- there weren't many props and there was no sets for the play
- · Using the wrong word or name
- ninners instead of niners being corrected by the director of the play
- · Repeating a word excessively.
- die repeatedly said throughout the play. speak, dead.
Make note of examples of these as you watch the
play-within-a-play in Act V.
Hogging the stage. Changing and forgetting lines. No set pieces. Boys playing girls

Act 3 Scene 1 - Portfolio
1. Like Helena in the previous scene, Bottom discovers that
he is the object of someone's affection. How does his reaction to the discovery
compare with Helena's? What does his reaction reveal (or confirm) about his
character?
Answer:
Helena felt as though she was being mocked by Lysander because she knew of his love for Hermia and her love for Lysander. She is also best friends with Hermia and does not want to take away her man as she loves Demetrius and not Lysander. She does not want to betray Hermia and thinks it is some sort of plan or joke that Hermia and Lysander are mocking and making fun of her.
Bottom on the complete opposite was in the mindset that why wouldn't she love him. Like its expected for everyone to love and like him. He is very cocky and thinks that he is the best. Although no one thinks the same way that he does. At this point when Titania falls in love with him because of the potion he is unaware that he looks like a donkey. Bottom expects that everything good should come to him and only him and he also makes it an expectation that it does happen.
